Cookie policy

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a harmless text file that is stored in your browser when you visit almost any website. The purpose of the cookie is for the website to be able to remember your visit when you browse that page again. Although many people don’t know it, cookies have been in use for 20 years, ever since the first browsers appeared for the World Wide Web.

What is NOT a cookie?

It is not a virus, Trojan, worm, spam, spyware, or pop-up window.

What information does a cookie store?

Cookies generally do not store sensitive personal information such as credit card details, banking information, photographs, your ID, or personal data, etc. The data they store is typically technical, personal preferences, content customization, etc.

The web server does not associate you as a person but with your web browser. In fact, if you usually browse using Internet Explorer and then switch to browsing the same website with Firefox or Chrome, you’ll see that the site doesn’t recognize you as the same person because it’s actually associating the browser, not the person.

What types of cookies are there?

  • Technical cookies: These are the most basic and allow, among other things, the identification of whether a user is a human or an automated application, whether a user is anonymous or registered, and they enable basic tasks for the operation of dynamic websites.

  • Analytics cookies: They collect information about the type of browsing you are doing, the sections you use most, products viewed, time zone of access, language, etc.

  • Advertising cookies: These display ads based on your browsing behavior, country of origin, language, etc.

What are first-party and third-party cookies?

  • First-party cookies are those generated by the website you are visiting.

  • Third-party cookies are those generated by external services or providers such as Facebook, Google, etc.

What happens if I disable cookies?

To help you understand the impact of disabling cookies, here are a few examples:

  • You will not be able to share content from that website on Facebook or any other social network.

  • The website will not be able to tailor content to your personal preferences, such as in online stores.

  • You will not be able to access your personal area of the site, such as My Account, My Profile, or My Orders.

  • Online stores: You will not be able to make online purchases — they would have to be made by phone or by visiting a physical store (if available).

  • It will not be possible to customize your geographic preferences such as time zone, currency, or language.

  • The website will not be able to perform web analytics on visitors and site traffic, making it harder for the site to stay competitive.

  • You will not be able to comment on blogs, upload photos, post comments, rate or review content. The website will also be unable to verify whether you’re a human or an automated program posting spam.

  • Targeted advertising will not be shown, which will reduce the website’s advertising revenue.

  • All social networks use cookies. If you disable them, you will not be able to use any social media platforms.

Can cookies be deleted?

Yes. Not only can they be deleted, but also blocked, either generally or for a specific domain.

To delete cookies from a website, you must go into your browser settings and there you can search for cookies associated with the domain in question and delete them.
